Randy Sheperd’s Story

My name is Randy Shepherd, a childhood out with rheumatic fever left me with two artificial heart valves at 17, that led to heart failure in my late 30s and put me on the heart transplant list, after a 4 year wait, when my native heart completely failed, I turned to the total artificial heart as a bridge to transplant, after 15 months on the device I got my transplant and have made the most of my time since. Being husband to an amazing woman, seeing my oldest daughter marry, coaching my son’s baseball teams, completing 8 sprint triathlons, and hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim in a day are some of the accomplishments I have been able to complete. Now I am trying to raise awareness of the amazing resource and opportunity that Unique Beating Hearts offers for those in end stage heart failure who just need some time to await the perfect match.
